About our Senior Exercise Classes

Most gyms and rec centers offer group exercise classes.

Everybody loves classes, don’t they? 

Here’s how most exercise classes are structured:

  • One instructor with minimal expertise in dealing with the aging adult
  • The sky’s the limit with how many people can attend. You can hide (for better or worse) in the faceless crowd. 
  • Everyone does the same thing, because everyone needs exactly the same thing.
  • If you’re lucky you might be given a modification, but no guarantee that you are doing it correctly.
  • Each class is different, which makes learning form and tracking progress almost impossible.
  • You work out at the intensity you are told to do, or you try to keep up, whether it’s right or not.
  • Socialization with others.

The Leverage Fitness Exercise Class Difference

There’s a better way to help our clients reach their goals safely and efficiently.

  • All our coaches have extensive training and knowledge about the human body, especially the changes that happen as you age!
  • Our classes are capped at a maximum of 3 people, so you’ll never get lost in a crowd. 
  • Each person in the class gets direct one-on-one time with the coach to ensure the correct form, and answer questions.
  • Because our coaches are by your side, they help you gauge the intensity and work together to ensure you are at the appropriate intensity.
  • We believe that one size fits precisely one. Each client has a unique exercise prescription, so while you’re exercising with others, you are only doing the things you need at that time. The others will be following their own prescription.
  • The smaller groups mean the others in the group become more than just a name and face you recognize; they become like family.

How is the class structured?

Each client has a unique exercise prescription designed to help them achieve at least the minimum reccommendations for physical activity by the ACSM. Each prescription will have a blend of:

  • Mobility/Flexibility
  • Strength training real movements
  • Aerobic conditioning, usually with circuits or HIITs (high-intensity interval training)
  • Neuromotor elements (exercises to challenge balance, proprioception, gait, agility, dual-tasking)

We limit our classes to 3 people to ensure everyone gets plenty of attention and direction and that no one gets hurt or can hide in the crowd. We’ve also found this to be the ideal size to build friendships and community. 

Since our classes are really semi-private training, you don’t have to worry about finding a class that is ‘at your level’, or find other people similar to your level. We welcome and work with all fitness abilities at any hour we’re open.
